History Matters..

Salts Mill continues to thrive whilst it experiences its third industrial revolution since being realised as Titus Salts new world vision for industry in 1863.

At the time of its launch – Salts Mill was the biggest factory in the world. 3000 workers toiled away at 1200 looms, producing 30,000 yards of cloth every single day. In a twenty five year building spree, Salt also built housing, a church, schools and almshouses for his work force.

His legacy gave rise to the consumer and communication electronics boom of the late 1980’s and 90’s – again, creating 1000’s of high tech/high level jobs at Salts and throughout a global supply chain.

Where design, heritage, the arts and innovation come together…

The mill, now a World Heritage Site, continues to thrive as an emerging technology, design, innovation and manufacturing hub – complemented by an intriguing symbiosis with the David Hockney Gallery, cultural exhibition centre, boutique retail and fine dining.
